Project Structure

The Term 2 project evaluates key topics such as Personal Development, Social Development, and Health and Well-being. Learners are required to submit an essay-format report that demonstrates critical thinking and research skills.

• Introduction (5 Marks): Clearly explain the topic and its relevance, and provide a brief overview of what the project covers.
• Identification of the Issue (5 Marks): Pinpoint a specific social or environmental issue in the community and justify its importance.
• Research and Analysis (10 Marks): Use facts and examples to support the discussion. Analyze the causes and effects of the selected issue.
• Proposed Solutions (10 Marks): Suggest at least two realistic solutions, explain their implementation, and discuss how to overcome possible challenges.
• Personal Reflection & Presentation (10 Marks): Provide a personal opinion on the issue, reflect on project learnings, and ensure logical structure and proper referencing.

Assessment Criteria

The marking rubric assesses the following core competencies:

• Application of knowledge to real-life situations: 20%

Theme 1: Social and Environmental Responsibility

Learners investigate critical environmental issues such as illegal dumping or natural disasters. For example, projects may explore how communities can stay safe during floods, and analyze the positive and negative impacts of social media reporting on flood victims.

Theme 2: Human Rights and Social Justice

This theme aims to promote responsible citizenship and respect for human rights. Learners examine how fraud and corruption contribute to human rights violations in South Africa, and investigate the roles of citizens, government, and institutions in ensuring fair resource distribution.

Theme 3: The Role of the Media

Learners evaluate the role of the media in a democratic society, specifically focusing on how media and social media platforms act to expose corruption and human rights violations.
